“Sataniv Cultural Heritage. 3D-loading” is a project aimed at preserving the architectural heritage of the historic town of Sataniv, Khmelnytskyi Oblast

Project Goal: To preserve the contemporary state and restore, via augmented reality, the original appearance of the architectural heritage of the historic town of Sataniv, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, by translating it into the digital dimension and promoting it through high-quality media content.

Project Impact

The town of Sataniv in Khmelnytskyi Oblast is well-known for its healing “Zbruchanska” mineral water and resort facilities, yet its tangible cultural heritage remains largely unknown to both Ukrainian and foreign tourists.

Today, the neglect of architectural monuments of national significance poses a serious challenge: the 15th–18th century Town Gate, the 15th–18th century Sataniv Castle, and the Holy Trinity Monastery of 1654. This is particularly due to severe destruction caused over time by natural factors and human negligence.

Digitizing cultural heritage sites will allow for the preservation and promotion of these architectural monuments, ensuring barrier-free access for all citizens and communities.

A unique video product will be created for each architectural monument, drawing a symbolic parallel between the specific structure and a musical instrument.

The digital technologies utilized will attract attention to the cultural heritage sites of Sataniv and make its architecture more accessible to everyone through barrier-free access to the project’s final products (3D models, an interactive map, “Sataniv post cards” 3D AR postcards, object renders for 360-degree panoramas, etc.).

Results

• 3D models of 5 cultural monuments in Sataniv were developed, blending their contemporary appearance with a semi-transparent wireframe of the destroyed sections.
• An interactive digital map-website featuring 5 architectural monuments of Sataniv was created. Their 3D models can be viewed with its help.
• Three musical promotional videos for such architectural monuments of Sataniv as the Town Gate, the Holy Trinity Monastery, and the Sataniv Castle were produced.
• 1,400 sets of “Sataniv post cards” 3D AR postcards were printed and distributed, allowing users to view the 3D models of five Sataniv monuments on their smartphones.

The project “Sataniv Cultural Heritage. 3D-loading” is implemented by the Center for Development of Initiatives “InSource” in cooperation with the NGO “Oseredok Zmin”, with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation within the “Cultural Heritage” grant program.
